Chapter IV: OasisDrawing energy from reserves it didn't know it had, the spider scuttled the remaining distance to the oasis, and sought shelter under a huge, moist leaf. There it rested, cooling its body in the shade.Chapter IV: Oasis
After a leisurely recovery, it crawled to the topside of the leaf and observed its surroundings. Behind it stretched the limitless black desert it had so recently (not to mention foolishly) tried to cross, and above the great grey wall was a vast expanse of green. After the barrenness of the desert, the grass seemed like a paradise, and without further ado the spider scaled the crumbling wall and lost itself in the new, lush world.

Chapter III: Black DesertA barren, black expanse stretched on as far as the eyes could see, in all directions. It was pitted with small cracks and fissures, but was otherwise devoid of any features. The spider concentrated on moving one leg at a time, over and over...Chapter III: Black Desert

The muted, weak pain where his leg had separated from his body still persisted, but eventually, it made a decision; to venture out from this crac

Chapter 1: On Feathered WingsA deafening, keening screech filled the air, and the beak plunged. A small, innocuous house spider scuttled to the side, and felt the soil split less than a millimetre behind him as the mouth-part hit. The head swung back, and re-aimed at the spider that was running for its life across the soft, wet ground. The bird pounced again, but slipped at the last minute and only succeeded in getting thick globules of mud over its face. It hopped on the spot, trying to clear its eyes, and the spider took its chance. It weaved through the sprouting weeds, the squawks of irritation from behind resonating through its entire body.
